Deacon Ned Rice

1930 - 2000
On April 5, 2000, ATSP alumni Ned Rice died from injuries incurred in an automobile accident. Ned was one of the beginning members of ATSP in 1975 and he served FSIS for 36 years. A well respected, dedicated employee, Ned began his career as a livestock slaughter inspector and advanced through several positions. Ned’s career ended in Washington, D.C. as a staff officer where he served with another well respected alumni and long time friend Peter Tancredi. During his term of service, he received many awards including the Secretary’s Department Superior Service Honor Award. Throughout his career, Ned was thought of as one who would always go the extra mile as he often spent countless hours on his own time to further the mission of the Agency. Upon retiring, Ned started his own private consulting organization (Toneco Enterprises) providing various services to the food industry. Ned’s service to his country while in the military, his federal service, his devotion to his church family, and love for his family is a tribute to this man. As they said it at his memorial service, “You did it exactly right Ned”!
